The Bridal Shop: How to Find the Perfect Wedding dress
Finding the right wedding dress requires patience and research. Look at magazines and designer and bridal shop websites to get an idea of what you're drawn to in terms of style, shape, attitude, and if possible bring those photos to the first appointment. A search for wedding dresses on the internet is fine, but focus on websites dedicated to bridal fashion rather than the thousands that are promoting the sale of a wedding dress.

If you visit a bridal gown salon, agree on a budget and consider the wedding dress style that will best suit your body type. The goal is to feel comfortable and beautiful. Plan on visiting no more than a couple of stores a day and sleep on it. Make an appointment during the week, if possible, or first thing in the morning on the weekend, when the store is quietest. Over time, you will be able to form a clear idea of the type of dress you are looking for.

Keep an open mind. Wedding gowns are made differently than regular dresses: they have layers and linings that pull you in in all the right places, so a style that doesn't normally flatter you might be just the one for your wedding. Some bridal salespeople are helpful but others are more interested in the sale rather than in helping you find the appropriate wedding gown. If you don't feel the salesperson has your best interests at heart, find someone who does. Focus on finding a wedding dress that makes you feel great. Most brides-to-be know what they want (or don't). If you know right away that the dress really isn't for you, speak up, and take it off.

Although some bridal salons are strict about how many dresses you can try and discourage photographs, most are accomodating if you appear to be a serious shopper. Attitude is important and salespeople might show you fewer gowns and attempt to steer you to "the one" faster than they would otherwise.

Don't feel pressured into buying anything the same day, no matter how pressured. Yes, it can take six to eight months for some gowns to come in, but as long as you get shopping early enough, you should be in fine shape! Please remember that fittings and alterations take time and this is no last minute project so leave enough time.

In short, do your research, pound the pavement and don't settle for anything less than you deserve on your special day.
